Can't make both dates?

Don't worry! Although completing both dates will give the best experience, the course is structured so that you can just attend either session without the other and still gain a lot from it.

Just look for the 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' options on the booking page.

Course Schedule

(A pre-course survey will be sent out to ensure that this content is fully tailored to you)

Part 1 - Saturday 22nd July

  • How to read musical notation (from absolute basics upwards, tailored to your needs)

  • Interval training to work out how far away pitches are from each other, and to sing them at sight.

  • How to 'note bash' pitches on a piano / app so that you can work on your harmony lines at home

  • Practical exercises in large and small groups on all topics, with both peer and instructor feedback.

  • Tea and coffee provided throughout the session

  • Social afterwards at the pub for anyone who wished to join!

Part 2 - Sunday 23rd July

  • Interval training and sight singing practice, with a focus on sight singing flats and sharps

  • Sight singing rhythms

  • Music theory that can help us make intelligent guesses while sight singing

  • Sight singing in a group rehearsal setting

  • Practical exercises in large and small groups on all topics, with both peer and teacher feedback.

  • Recaps and conclusions of the course

  • Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the session.

Zoom Observers

For those unable to make it in person, the entire course will be streamed on Zoom. Although the course has a lot of practical exercises, these can all be done at home - the main difference is that Zoom observers will not get 1-2-1 support or feedback. The Zoom call will be facilitated by another member of staff so that questions, comments or insights can be answered or relayed to the room, making it as interactive as possible. Some exercises will make use of break out rooms, and all handouts will be sent out as PDFs to Zoom observers in advance.
