A short course designed to help singers improve and feel confident in their ability to sing harmony lines in a group setting. The full course consists of two afternoon workshops and is entirely appropriate for all abilities - no prior experience or ability to read music required.

Can't make both dates?
Don't worry! Although completing both dates will give the best experience, the course is structured so that you can just attend either session without the other and still gain a lot from it.

Part 1 - Saturday 29th July

How to hold chords and listen to the rest of an ensemble without being put off

Exploration of common harmonic patterns - singing in thirds and sixths

Singing in 2, 3 and 4 part harmony

Practice holding your own line when stood next to someone who's singing something different!

How to 'note bash' pitches on a piano / app so that you can work on your harmony lines at home

Practical exercises in large and small groups on all topics, with both peer and instructor feedback.

Part 2 - Sunday 30th July

Harmony practice - singing in 2, 3 and 4 parts

Learn how to create your own harmony lines for a melody

Become familiar with common chord progressions to be able to anticipate or create harmonies

Theatre@41 is situated on the main street in Stockton on the Forest 5 miles to the North of York just off the A64. Please note there is no free parking around Monkgate (although some of the nearby streets a 10 min walk away are free to park on at weekends - get in touch for details). The bus stops outside the hall. Theatre@41 is wheelchair accessible.
